Reading week is just around the corner (or now, depending on how lucky you are) and not all of us have the luxury of parking our bum in a beach lounger for the week. Luckily, most of us will have the luxury of parking our bum on the couch, which can be almost just as good. So while you’re all cozied up, get off Facebook, close your Vogue and get your fashion fix elsewhere. Here are 10 fashion flicks for you to chill out to this reading week & because we love you, we’ve also double checked that they’re all available on Netflix Canada. Yes, NETFLIX CANADA – slim pickings, people. You’re welcome.

1. Picture Me

Picture Me is an eye-opening documentary, shot as a model’s personal video diary. The film follows the life of model Sarah Ziff as she rises from the face of an everyday passer-by to one that’s plastered on billboards and magazines around the world. Viewers are invited to come behind the scenes to see the not-so-glamorous world of high fashion.

2. Coco Before Chanel

Coco Before Chanel stars Audrey Tautou in the role of Coco Chanel, which tells the story of the French designer from her early life as an orphan towards fashion stardom. The biopic is originally filmed in French, with English subtitles. Must see.

3. L’Amour Fou

L’Amour Fou is a French documentary that delves into the life of fashion genius Yves Saint Laurent. Told through the eyes of his partner, Pierre Bergé, this beautifully shot film explores life’s deepest troubles faced by Saint Laurent and the importance of the two lovers’ relationship with one another.

4. Seamless

Seamless is a documentary brought to you by filmmaker and photographer Douglas Keeve. Based upon a competition, which places up and coming designer talent under the microscope to see if they have what it takes to make it in the industry, the film focuses on three contestants. It also features cameo appearances by Vera Wang and Isaac Mizrahi.

5. Zoolander

So that you can get your education on what it really means to be a male model. Classic.

6. TEDTalks: Beauty & Fashion: Beneath the Skin Deep

Okay, not really a film, per se, but very interesting and informative. This TED Talks series is comprised of 11 episodes ranging from inspirational talks on inner beauty to scientific lectures about the art of perfume making. Most episodes are around 15 minutes – so if all you’ve got time for is a cat nap, throw one of these on.

7. Clueless

Surely, there’s nothing to explain here. Duh.

8. Vidal Sassoon: The Movie

R.I.P. Sassoon. Learn about one of the most prolific and influential hair stylists of all time – from his harsh childhood, to his service in the Israeli military, to his widespread success in the worlds of beauty and fashion in this 2011 documentary.

9. Good Hair

Speaking of hair, experience some serious LOLs watching Chris Rock’s documentary on African American women’s hair. Inspired by his 5-year-old daughter asking “Daddy, how come I don’t have good hair?”, Rock hops around the world going from beauty salons to science labs, digging into the $9 billion black hair industry, the perceptions within the community, and the hair-related experiences of celebrities like T-Pain, Raven Symone, Maya Angelou and Kerry Washington.

10. A Single Man

Alright, so this isn’t a fashion movie, but it is directed by Tom Ford, and it’s a remarkably beautiful film, so if you haven’t seen it – do yourself a favour and watch it.

You must be so comfy/cozy. Have fun!
